Social Networking

When I told my previous boss that I planned to work in a library, he was surprised. He kept asking me how I was going to deal with the public since he knew I didn't talk a lot. I told him that I can deal with people within defined chunks of time and I am very successful at it. And I am! I provide excellent customer service and I make sure to give each person my full attention when we are engaged. HOWEVER, the need to socialize with big batches of people has not surfaced. I keep wondering if there is something wrong with me because I don't want to Twitter or because I don't have a FB account but I figure to each his own.

Second Life

I took a class last year that required me to take part in a virtual world through Google called LIVELY. I found it to be interesting only because I had the chance to see the "worlds" created by other people. Other than that, I don't see a need to talk with 2 headed people or visit "hell's livingroom" again. Using it for class meetings would be interesting.

Dark Side

I have not had a phishing scam but I have had a lot of spam and pop-up messages. If the phishing messages are as realistic as the ones in the examples, then maybe I have been hit and didn't even know. I've been running updates on my anti-virus software and I'm really hoping not to fall into any traps or have my identity stolen.

Life Long Learning and 2.0

I'm studying to get my MLIS degree and the class I'm taking is all about learning to learn and reading for life. Using the Internet can help with those goals.
I liked eHow and How Stuff Works. I also found Businessballs to be interesting in its style.

Late response to OCLS & Library 2.0 Dec 2

Q. In your blog, describe how you see programs like The Orange Seed and Orlando Memory as being important to yourself and how they are important to the Library.

A. I believe that it is important to the Library because it helps keep us tied to the community. It imporves communication within the library (Orange Seed) and makes the community aware of the history of Orlando and how we (the library) play a part.

Finding Fun Things to Do

I found a site called Zango where people can play games and send them to freinds. I don't play too many games on line but I guess this would be fun for people who do.

I also found a site called Hairmixer that lets you download a photo of yourself and try new hairstyles. I thought this would be fun for young girls at a slumber party or for anyone interested in getting a new style. I also allows you to slim your face, change hair color and adjust the way you look. I might even go home and try it out.

Open Source Information

I found a site discussing some librarians who want to take cataloging from OCLC and make it a kind of open source.
